FURNITURE DESIGN 1

This furniture piece is inspired by a traditional daybed,  reinterpreted as Deewan. The low, rectangular design allows it to function as both seating and a resting surface. The structure is made of pine wood, chosen for its strength, light weight, and ease of construction. Swead cloth has been used for cushioning to provide comfort and a soft tactile contrast to the wooden frame. The earthy tone of the fabric adds warmth and simplicity to the design. The piece was handcrafted over 5 days, focusing on proportion, comfort, and material understanding. The design emphasizes minimalism, functionality, and material honesty.

FURNITURE DESIGN 2

This furniture piece is a study table inspired by a traditional South Indian dining table. The intent was to reinterpret the original table form and recreate it as a functional study table, while retaining its cultural essence.

As per the brief, the original table was taken as inspiration and minor design modifications were made. The size and proportions were altered to suit a study/work purpose, making it more compact and ergonomic. The materiality was also modified to adapt the table for contemporary use while maintaining the simplicity and sturdiness of the original form.

The design bridges traditional inspiration with modern functionality, transforming a culturally rooted dining table into a practical study furniture piece.
